The Gulf Coast Blues Association was born in March, 2014. From a core of six original members, GCBA has grown to over 250 members strong. Members include musicians, fans, venues and companies interested in the common goal of keeping blues music alive.
The First Annual GCBA Houston Blues Festival was successfully produced in January 2015 with the Buddy Whittington Band headlining. Regional and local bands perform every year. GCBA produced the Fifth Annual Festival on May 11, 2019, at Tomball VFW Post 2427 with TAB BENOIT headlining this event.
GCBA sponsors a Monthly Blues Jam that rotates at a different venue with a different host band. Recently GCBA added Jazz as an additional genre under its name and a Monthly Jazz Jam is planned. The metro Houston area is rich with outstanding blues and jazz musicians and GCBA showcases as many as possible.
